At Stephen P. Krohn, P.A., our services are tailored to our clients' individual needs. We guide our clients through some of the most tumultuous times in their lives with our knowledge and experience in the areas of separation, divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements, property settlements, mediation and appeals.
Custody & Visitation
When parents make the decision to separate, they are faced with the difficult responsibility of dividing parenting tasks and physical time with their children. Careful attention to detail is required to prevent unnecessary disputes in the future and ensure that the children's best interests are met.
It is frequently the case when you are very pleased with a judge's decision, that the other party is equally displeased and files an appeal to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Mr. Krohn has argued more than 70 cases before the Court of Special Appeals as well as Maryland's highest court, the Court of Appeals.
A prenuptial agreement is a written contract made between two people prior to their marriage. Among other things, prenuptial agreements can protect individual assets, define ownership of assets acquired during the marriage and/or resolve support and property issues arising from a separation or divorce. Prenuptial agreements can be an invaluable tool to ensure that any future dissolution of the marriage is achieved with minimal conflict.
Mediation is a method of alternative conflict resolution whereby an impartial third party is used to help the parties resolve their disputes without the need for litigation. Many jurisdictions in Maryland require the parties to at least attempt mediation during their litigation, if they have not already done so.
Peace and Protective Orders
Sadly, domestic and family violence have become an epidemic. Depending on the relationship with their perpetrators, victims of violence in Maryland are entitled to seek court protection from abuse. If the parties are related by blood, marriage, adoption or are involved in certain intimate relationships with each other, the victim may be entitled to a Protective Order. All other individuals may seek protection by way of a Peace Order.
Property Settlement Agreements
Unlike prenuptial agreements which are entered into before marriage, property settlement agreements, often referred to as separation agreements, are entered into during the marriage, in contemplation of a separation or divorce. These agreements are intended to resolve all legal issues arising from the parties' marriage and subsequent separation.
